Fashion Codes

After completing Institut Français de la Mode's online course "Understanding Fashion: From Business to Culture", I've gained invaluable insights into reading a catwalk silhouette and interpreting a particular brand's fashion codes, which can be analyzed on a real and a poetic level. On a first level, we can explore the immediately recognizable visual elements of a brand such as Chanel, the tweed jacket, quilted bag, the camellia, the pearls, chains and intertwined CCs jewelry to determine prevalent themes. On a second, deeper level of analysis, we can understand some of the abstract meanings that are being conveyed in the brand's storytelling.
